I love journalism.

That’s the best way I can open this, because it’s 100-percent true. So, again, I LOVE journalism. I love asking questions. I love probing. I love digging. I even love knocking on strange doors, never knowing what awaits on the other side. I love it all.

Only, these days we’re supposed to believe that journalists are evil; that we’re biased, one-sided pieces of emu crud with no viable contributions to society. We’re all grouped together—so whether you’re Dan Rather and Howard Bryant or the foolish Newsmax White House agitator, you’re The Media.

Well, I call bullshit.

I’m starting this newsletter because I want to talk journalism. I want to share stories, explain sagas, offer advice and thoughts and nuggets of wisdom. I want to highlight exceptional work and (on occasion) question practices that make us all look bad.
