A self-loathing examination into how journalists organize and prepare before finally starting to write. Also, the worst column of my life and a college journalist who covers (gasp!) cannabis.
Excellent advice. I can't agree enough about the soul-sucking process of transcribing your own interviews, but yet, it's still invaluable to discover how best to present the story. I thought I was a good enough writer to go full-Perlman and let it rip, but I'm not—I still need organization.
Hilarious and also inspiring. I’m in your camp, just kinda let it flow with no real organization. But my beat is food and cooking and the end is always a great recipe.
As another person who gets paid to cover the wild world of weed, kudos to Lindsay. This beat is fun as hell but it can also be a slog, and it sounds like she's knocking it out of the park.
I'd love to know what was going thru the copy editor's mind when he/she read that column.
Jeff, the podcast is great. How about having Terry Pluto as a guest? I worked with at the Savannah Morning News many, many years ago
Added bonus of transcribing your interviews: You can copy and paste a quote and "write" 50 words in a few seconds.
